Was There a Schism?.. Peer Review of Elena Dvoskina’s Article “Tchaikovsky Reads Rimsky-Korsakov. On the 140th Anniversary of the ‘Great Schism’ of Russian Methodology”
To make the scientific publishing process more transparent and to stimulate scientific discussion, the “Music Academy” journal publishes some peer reviews along with the articles to which they are devoted. The review by Candidate of Art Criticism, Associate Professor Elena S. Derunets is a response to Elena M. Dvoskina’s study published in this issue of the “Music Academy,” dedicated to a comparison of the methods of teaching harmony by P. I. Tchaikovsky and N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov. The authors of Russia’s first classical textbooks on this discipline adhered to different, sometimes diametrically opposed approaches to its study. Each of them, in the opinion of E. M. Dvoskina, has proved to be promising. Noting the undoubted interest of the publication, E. S. Derunets joins the discussion, challenging some of her opponent’s scientific theses.
