Elena S. Derunets
Candidate of Art Criticism, Associate Professor at The Gnesins Russian Academy of Music. In 1975, she graduated from the Faculty of Music History, Theory, and Composition of the Gnesins State Musical and Pedagogical Institute (now the Gnesins Russian Academy of Music), and in 1979, she completed her postgraduate studies under the supervision of Associate Professor A. A. Stepanov. In 2008, she defended her candidate’s dissertation “Russian theories of harmony from the second half of the 19th to the early 20th century: Basic concepts and terms” under the scientific supervision of Doctor of Art Criticism, Professor T. I. Naumenko. Since 1980, she has been working in the Department of Harmony and Solfeggio (currently the Department of Music Theory). Her teaching experience at the Academy includes courses in harmony, ear-training, and teaching methodologies across various faculties. She is the author of numerous scholarly and methodological publications, as well as advanced university-level educational programs. She is also the organizer and participant in national and international conferences regularly held at the Gnesins Russian Academy of Music, including “Musicology in the Context of Culture” (supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, 2018 and 2020) and “The Gnesins Pedagogical Schools: History and Modernity.” E. S. Derunets serves as the compiler and chief editor of collections of scientific articles and is the initiator of a series of methodological publications entitled “From the Heritage of the Gnesins Pedagogical School.” In 2013, she was awarded the Certificate of Honor by the Ministry of Culture of Russia.
