The Territory of New Music: 30 Years Later (To the Anniversary of the Scholarly and Art Center for Contemporary Music Studies of Moscow Conservatory)
In 2023, the Scholarly and Art Center for Contemporary Music Studies of Moscow Conservatory celebrates its 30th anniversary. Musicologist Marianna Vysotskaya turns to the history of the emergence of the Center, starting with the founding in 1993 of the Society of Contemporary Music and the birth of the ensemble of soloists “Studio of New Music” and further tracing the formation of a large-scale project to create a multidisciplinary creative, scientific and educational infrastructure within the walls of the conservatory. Today, the Center covers all the main aspects of the functioning of modern music, including research work, the creation of an educational strategy and large-scale concert and creative activities. Summing up the results of its activities over three decades, the author notes the historical role of the Center in Russian cultural life.
