Abstract

The author discusses the long-lasting communication experience with Richard Taruskin and his books. The publication puts forward the thesis that Russian science did not master the works of Taruskin because of the traumatic experience of the 1940s when ideological pressure forced musicologists to abandon humanitarian research in favour of theoretical analysis of music.
