Shatters and Splinters. Recent Musical Theatre Impressions
The article records the author’s impressions of the productions of the operas “La sonnambula” by V. Bellini, “Herodias” by J. Massenet, “The Maid of Orleans” by P. I. Tchaikovsky (Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Düsseldorf), “Orpheus and Eurydice” by K. V. Gluck (Nizhny Novgorod Opera and Ballet Theater). The author also reflects on modern trends in the field of theatre, including one when many different phenomena are combined in the space of a particular object. The work of the Moscow Philharmonic Society is also highly appreciated, and the role of singers in modern opera theatre is emphasized. In connection with the discussion on Bruckner’s 8th Symphony interpretation by the conductor A. Fisch, the question of the abilities that every serious conductor should possess is touched upon. At the end of the article, the author conveys her impressions of her work in the jury of the competition of young musicologists and performers, organized at the music school of the city of Kerch and dedicated to the work of Prokofiev. She also speaks about her visit to Arvo Pärt Center and the concert organized there by A. Lyubimov.
