Musicologist and close friend of Viktor Ekimovsky Rauf Farkhadov remembers the composer through the prism of a series of concepts—a term without which, according to the author, it is impossible not only to interpret the work but also to understand Ekimovsky’s entire life. The conceptual approach permeated Ekimovsky’s seminars at Ruza House of Composers’ Work, even his attitude towards health and communication with friends and colleagues. The author also reveals the idea of an individual project, substantiates the importance of the issue of texture for the composer’s work, and his consistent avant-garde nonconformism. The Ninth Symphony, Ekimovsky’s final 100th composition, deserves special attention.
