Yuri V. Vorontsov
Composer, Professor at Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, member of the Union of Russian Composers, member of the Board of the Union of Moscow Composers, member of the Selection Committee of the Union of Russian Composers. Born in 1952 in Moscow. In 1972, he graduated from the Gnesins Music College, in 1977—from Moscow Conservatory where he studied under Evgeniy Golubev (composition) and Nikolai Rakov (instrumentation), in 1980—finished his postgraduate course. Since 1979, he has been teaching at the Composition Department of Moscow Conservatory, since 1992, he has been leading the composition class, since 1998—Professor. Among the students: A. Vasilyev, E. Langer, T. Novikova, S. Segal, А. Najarov, N. Prokopenko, A. Shatkovskaya, E. Khmelevskaya, R. Yesayan, A. Podzorova and others. The author of four symphonies, piano works, choral, chamber vocal, organ music, musicals “Thumbelina” (1994) and “The Tale of Tsar Saltan” (1999). According to the newspaper “Muzykal’noe obozrenie” [Musical Review], he was honoured among the 10 best composers of Russia, the project “Events and Persons” (2005).
