Yuliya Aleksandrovna Monastyrshina
Doctor of Art Criticism, pianist and teacher. Born in Moscow. Graduated from Ippolitov-Ivanov Music College, where she studied under S. N. Reshetov, and later from Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, where she was a student of T. P. Nikolaeva. Laureate of international competitions, including the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig (1990). In 2000 defended her candidate’s dissertation “Claude Debussy’s mystery ‘The Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian’ in the cultural context of the era”, and in 2019, earned her doctorate in Art Criticism with a dissertation “The work of Glenn Gould in the artistic context of the era.” She has served as an associate professor at the Department of World Musical Culture at Kosygin Russian State University. Author of methodologies focused on piano technique and the interpretation of musical works.
