Mikhail P. Mishchenko

Musicologist, organist. Graduated from Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg State Conservatory (1993) as а musicologist (under L. G. Kovnatskaya) and as an organist (under T. M. Chausova). His other organ teachers were Yury Semyonov in St. Petersburg and Hans Davidsson in Gothenburg (Sweden). He teaches history of music in the St.Petersburg Conservatoire since 1997 and in the St.Petersburg State University (2012–2022). Author of the books “Three Treatises on Cesar Franck” (1999), “From the History of Mozart Studies” (2005), “An Offering to Glazunov” (2006), “Musical Historiography” (2009), “Essays on Melosophy” (2014; grant by ACLS 2009). He carried out the Russian Carried out the translation of the book by K. Nielsen “Live Music” (2005) and prepared the Russian edition of R. Stevenson’s book “Paderewski’s Paradox” (2003). Mishchenko has performed the Russian premiere of “Messis”, organdrama by the Danish composer Rued Langgaard – one of the longest compositions for the instrument (2007–2008). He performed in the cities of Russia, Belarus, the Baltics, Scandinavia. He has recorded CDs on the Walcker organ at the Maltese Chapel (2009). He was the first Russian organist awarded the Certificate of Merit by the Elgar Society of Great Britain for promoting the music of Edward Elgar (2012).
