Abstract
Igor Stravinsky’s “Histoire du soldat” (“The Soldier’s Tale”) was composed to the libretto by Swiss writer Charles Ferdinand Ramuz, inspired by a Russian folk tale from Alexander Afanasyev’s collection. The premiere took place in Lausanne in September 1918. The Russian translation was commissioned for a performance as part of the “Complete Stravinsky” cycle at the Moscow Philharmonic in 2024. As far as possible, the translation respects the style and metrical characteristics of the original text. Several versions of the text exist. In the translation, the content of the lines, their distribution among the characters, and stage directions strictly follow the version published in book form in 1920 in Switzerland: Ramuz, C. F.
