To make the scientific publishing process more transparent and to stimulate scientific discussion, the “Music Academy” journal publishes some peer reviews along with the articles to which they are devoted. The review by Doctor of Art Criticism, Professor Mikhail A. Saponov is a response to Zhanna V. Savitskaya’s study published in this issue of the “Music Academy,” dedicated to one of the works of the German music theorist Sethus Calvisius (1556–1615). In this work, for the first time in the history of musicological thought, the author’s desire for historical authenticity of presentation is revealed, which he, being an erudite, tries to implement through the chronologyization of the music history. Noting the undoubted relevance of the topic and the novelty of the author’s scientific view, Professor Saponov joins the scientific discussion and expresses his position concerning the problems covered in the article.
