This essay presents activities of the outstanding musicologist, Doctor of Art Criticism, Professor Lyudmila Kovnatskaya in the field of the foundation of the Regional Association of Eastern European Countries of the International Musicological Society (IMS), as well as two research groups―“Shostakovich and His Epoch” and “Stravinsky: Between East and West.” On her initiative, IMS symposiums were held in 2005 in St. Petersburg, 2008 in Kyiv, 2009 in Minsk and 2011 in Petrozavodsk. Those symposiums brought together the IMS directory and eminent musicologists from all over the world. These meetings served as the beginning of cooperation between musicological schools, the interaction between researchers and the preparation of international conferences, the ideological inspirer and organizer of which was Lyudmila Kovnatskaya.
