2024 marks the 90th anniversary of Alfred Schnittke’s birth. Journalist, employee of the State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company “Saratov” Oleg Klishin interviewed Alexander I. Demchenko, professor of the Saratov Conservatory, Honorary Citizen of Saratov and the Saratov region, who was personally acquainted with the composer. Demchenko shared his memories of Alfred Schnittke, spoke about the composer’s hometown—Engels, where Schnittke spent his childhood years, about his family, about Schnittke’s connections with Saratov composers, in particular with Elena Gokhman, about how the Saratov land preserves the memory of Schnittke, about the latest publications dedicated to his life and work.
