Abstract
The main production of the current season of the Krasnodar Musical Theatre, which is part of Gatov Krasnodar creative association “Premiere,” was the opera “Boris Godunov” by M. P. Mussorgsky. The musical basis of the performance was the author’s text of the composer, which was restored as a result of deep source study and textual research. Thanks to the interaction of scientific consultants E. M. Levashev and N. I. Teterina with directors, conductor D. Kryukov and director O. Ivanova, a conceptually and structurally convincing musical stage version was created, consisting of eight scenes. It included the never-before-seen picture “Forest Glade near Sokolniki on the Dnieper,” while the scene “Tavern on the Lithuanian border” was cut off. The new production changed the semantic accents in the concept of the opera in accordance with modern views on historical events. A distinctive feature of the performance was visual metaphors and leitmotifs that emotionally enhance the action, suddenly switch the stage development, and reveal the secret thoughts of the characters.
