Ivan G. Sokolov

Composer, pianist and musicologist. In 1978, he gra­duated from the Gnesins Music College (pia­no class by I. I. Naumova), in 1983—from Tchai­kov­sky Moscow State Conservatory in two specialties: as a composer (class of N. N. Sidelnikov) and as a pianist (class of L. N. Naumov). In 1986, he graduated from the assistant-internship at Moscow Conservatory (supervisor—N. N. Si­del­ni­kov). Member of the Association of Con­tem­porary Music (ACM-2), the Union of Russian Composers. Since 1994, he has been alternately living in Russia and Germany. In 1986–1994, he taught composition and improvisation at the Children’s Music School and at the Academic Music College at Moscow Conservatory. In 1988–1994, he taught at Moscow Conservatory at the Instrumentation and Score Reading Department, from 2005—at the Interdisciplinary Specializations of Musicologists Department, since 2007—at the Historical and Contemporary Performing Arts Department. Since 2006, he also teaches at the Gnesins Russian Academy of Music (assistant to V. M. Tropp at special piano class). He premiered the works of many contemporary composers (E. Denisov, A. Schnittke, I. Yusupova, N. Sidelnikov, V. Ekimovsky, A. Wus­tin, and others). Participates in the festivals “Moscow Autumn,” “Alternative,” “December Nights,” “Sakharov Festival” (Nizhny Novgorod), “Luezerner Festwoche” (Switzerland), “Icebreaker” (Seattle, USA), “Frankfurter Feste,” "Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival" (Germany). The list of works by I. Sokolov includes opera, musical and stage works, about 200 romances, choral, piano and chamber instrumental music.
