Nicolas L. Slonimsky

1894 - 1995

Russian and American musicologist, lexicographer, composer, conductor, and pianist. Born in 1894 in St. Petersburg. Studied at the St. Peters­burg Conservatory (1908–1916). Since 1923 he lived in the USA. Author of several reference publications—“Music since 1900” (1937), “Music of Latin America” (1945), “Lexicon of Musical Invective” (1953) and others; editor of O. Thomp­son’s musical encyclopedia, T. Baker’s biographical dictionary of musicians.
