Anton E. Safronov
Composer, lecturer and publicist. Born in Moscow. Graduated from Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory (class of composition—E. V. Denisov, music theory subjects—Yu. N. Kholopov), completed an internship in Germany with W. Rihm (Karlsruhe) and W. Zimmermann (Berlin). He lives and teaches in Moscow (Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, 2003–2009) and Berlin (University of the Arts, since 2009), and gives international master classes in Russia and abroad (including at the International Academy of Young Composers in Tchaikovsky, Russia, 2024; at the International Master Classes for Young Composers in Mazsalaca, Latvia, 2014). Participant in the World Days of the International Society for Contemporary Music (2006), the Year of Russia in France (2010) and the Year of Russia in Germany (2013). Winner of the International Competition for Composers in Besançon (France, 1997) and the 1st International P. I. Jurgenson Competition for Young Composers (Moscow, 2001). Fellowship holder of the Union of Moscow Composers, of the Berlin Senate for Culture, of the Villa Massimo Academy in Rome, of the Solitude Academy in Stuttgart. Author of publications in the magazines “Musical Life,” “Musical Academy,” “Tribune of Contemporary Music.” Initiator and organiser of musical projects, including “Russia—Europe: Windows into Contemporary Music” with the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble (2009–2011) and “New Russia—New Europe” with the GAMEnsemble (2012–2013). Composer in residence at the “Ajassa!” Festival (Helsinki, 2010) and the NeoQuartet project “Baltic Spectrum of New Music” (2016).
