Aleksey V. Parin
Theater critic, music critic, librettist, translator, poet, writer. Born in 1944. Known as the presenter of music programs on the radio station “Ekho Moskvy” (1990–2014, again from September 2018 to the present) and “Orpheus” (2005–2018). The author of more than 700 articles and 12 books, among them “Khozhdenie v nevidimyy grad. Paradigmy russkoy opery” [Walking in the Invisible City. The Paradigms of the Russian Opera] (1999), “Novoe penie” [New Singing] (2017), the novels “Khroniki goroda Leonska” [The Chronicles of the City of Leonsk] (2015) and “Slepuny” [Blind Snakes] (2018). Parin’s translations of Western poetry, from seven languages, are published in more than 70 books. The author of more than ten opera libretto, which have been set to music by F. Fenelon (France), A. Schetinsky (Ukraine), V. Lobanov (Germany), A. Raskatov (France), V. Kobekin (Russia). The Art Director of many musical projects, including the Sacro Art festival (Lokkum, Germany, 1995–2004), taught at universities in Moscow, Vienna, Innsbruck, and Strasbourg. He is currently the editor-in-chief of “Agraf” publishing house, a music columnist for “Ekho Moskvy” radio station, a regular contributor to “Novaya Gazeta” (Moscow) and “Opernwelt” magazine (since 1990, Berlin).
