Nikolay Yu. Khrust

Composer, sound designer, Candidate of Art Criti­cism, Lecturer of Tchaikovsky Moscow State Con­ser­vatory (Contemporary Music Department). Nikolay Khrust is a member of the Union of Russian Composers, Union of Moscow Composers and group “Sound Plasticity,” resident of Vs. Meyerhold Centre, Moscow. Born 1982 in Moscow. Graduated from Moscow Conservatory and then from postgraduate classes as a composer (under Professor V. Tarnopol’skiy). Khrust attended Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt, “Impuls” courses in Graz. He is the laureate of International and All-Russian contests. Khrust’s music has been performed in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Venice, Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Amsterdam and other European cities. Khrust was a composer-in-residence in electroacoustic centers GRAME and CIRM. He is the author and co-author of multimedia and multi-art projects, including sound installations, operas, multimedia performances. Nikolay appears as an electronics performer, improviser and computer music designer: he is a co-founder of “Octopus” improvisation ensemble. As a performer, Khrust realized several world and Russian premieres. He is the author of scientific papers on extended techniques of musical instruments, contemporary notation, phenomenology of music; among them there is his Candidate of Art Criticism thesis “Extended Techniques of Musical Instruments: The Experience of Classification” (scientific supervisor—Professor T. Tsaregradskaya, consultant—Professor G. Amosov). Khrust also acts as a popularizer of contemporary music and curator: he makes reports, reads public lectures.
