Boris S. Getselev

Composer, Professor, Head of the Composition and Instrumentation Department at Glinka Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatory, Honored Artist of Russia. Chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod organization of the Union of Russian Composers, member of the Council of the Union of Russian Composers. Winner of Shostakovich Prize of Union of Russian Composers, Nizhny Novgorod Prize, awarded the Order of Friend­ship. Born in Kuibyshev in 1940. In 1966, he graduated from Gorky Conservatory (composi­tion class of A. A. Nesterov). He studied pia­no in the class of B. S. Marants. After graduating from the conservatory, he began to teach at the same Music Theory and Composition Department, subsequently at the Department of Composition and Instrumentation. In 1972, he graduated from part-time assistant-internship at Moscow Conservatory (class of R. K. Shchedrin). Getselev’s compositions were performed at festivals “Moscow Autumn,” “Panorama of Russian Music,” “Composers of Russia for Children,” Sakharov Festival “Russian Art and Peace” (Nizhny Novgorod), “Pictures from the Exhibi­tion” (Nizhny Novgorod), “Europe—Asia” (Kazan), the festival of music composers of the Volga and Urals, choral festival “Harmony and Peace,” and many others. The composer collaborates with Nizhny Novgorod TV, the Theater of Young Spectators, writes music for Nizhny Novgorod Puppet Theater, and Gorky Drama Theater.
