Victor A. Ekimovsky
Was born in Moscow in 1947. Graduated in composition from Aram Khachaturyan’s class and in the history of music from Konstantin Rosenschild’s class at Gnesin Musicalpedagogic Institute in 1971. In 1978 he completed a postgraduate course in musicology from Galina Filenko’s class at the Leningrad State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory. He made Ph. D. in Musicology in 1983, apart from numerous articles on modern music he is the author of monograph about Olivier Messiaen, the book which was the first in Russia (published by “Soviet Composer”, 1987). His compositions were presented at many music festivals in Russia, Europe and USA, some of them commissioned by famous soloists and orchestras. Since 1996 Ekimovsky is President of Association for Contemporary Music (Moscow), elected to the Board of the Moscow Composers Union and to the Secretariat of the Composers Union of Russian Federation.
